AURORA, Ill. (CBS) – CBS 2 has learned the identity of a woman killed after her car crashed into a retention pond off eastbound I-88 and the Eola exit in west suburban Aurora.
Officials with the DuPage County Coroner’s Office say the body of 20 year-old Emory Diaz Sepulveda of Aurora was pulled from the pond at 2:57 a.m. Sunday.
Illinois State Police say Sepulveda was driving her 2006 Chevy Cobalt, when it spun-out of control, off the highway, and into the pond.
Search and rescue efforts began Saturday night just after 7:30 p.m., after 911 dispatchers received a call from a witness.
Troopers say the vehicle landed upside-down in the water and was submerged.
Illinois State Police tell CBS 2’s Courtney Gousman, there were three female survivors.
Irene Affatti, 48, of North Aurora, and two juveniles were all taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center Saturday night after being pulled from the retention pond. Their injuries are described as non-life threatening.
CBS 2 learned, Sepulveda also had ties to the DeKalb area, with a second address listed close to the Northern Illinois University campus. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Two patients, one adult and one minor, have been treated and released. All patients were taken to Advocate Lutheran General.
